Buying groups express support for Brixy

USA Baby, Baby News and NINFRA have all officially expressed their support of new specialty retail group Brixy in a letter sent out to the industry this week.

"We fully support (Brixy's) leadership in championing the independent specialty stores during this critical time in our industry," said the letter, which was signed by USA Baby President Alan Levine, Baby News President Roger O'Callaghan and NINFRA Executive Director Rafael DeCastro . "We pledge our help now and in the future to make Brixy a successful enterprise, and we are encouraging each of our members to join this new organization when it launches in January 2013. We have confidence in Brixy's leadership team and their ability to grow the independent sales channel for the benefit of manufacturers, retailers and consumers. We encourage all specialty stores, manufacturers, sales reps and the media to join us in supporting this important new organization."

In a separate letter, addressed to the manufacturing community, Baby Furniture Plus Association outlined its position.

"Many throughout the industry felt that the groups were dissolving due to the announcement of All Baby & Child (ABC) no longer providing funding to the individual independent retail associations," the letter said. "This is not true for BFPA and...we will move forward into the future."

The BFPA letter, which was signed by the BFPA board of directors and Executive Director Beth Jarabek, said that BFPA's mission has always been helping juvenile brick and mortar stores to grow and thrive.

"With that said, we welcome, support, and await beneficial opportunities and details from the new retail community ‘Brixy.' To encourage involvement our group is working on a by-law modification to allow dual membership in other associations. Since this new community developed as a ‘NEW' entity and not a merger or unification, BFPA reiterates the importance of consistency for its membership and for the industry."
