K.I.D.S. needs merchandise donations for Sandy relief
Kids Today Staff -- Kids Today, November 2, 2012
Kids in Distressed Situations has set up a Hurricane Sandy Disaster Relief Drive to provide help to those affected by Hurricane Sandy. After slamming into New York and New Jersey, Sandy spawned floods, fires, storm surges, power outages and blizzards as far away as West Virginia.
The nonprofit says children and families in shelters and in affected communities are in dire need of new apparel, blankets, shoes, toys, baby products and books, and is asking for merchandise donations from the industry.
In New York City, K.I.D.S. is partnering with multiple agencies to set up a major distribution site in Queens to serve families who lost their houses to fire and floods. In New Jersey, K.I.D.S. is working with partners up and down the Jersey coast to collect and distribute relief supplies to families affected by the storm. And in West Virginia, where as much as two to three feet of snow fell, K.I.D.S. is getting ready to dispense goods and supplies collected from corporate donors.

The organization said it is also in desperate need of cash donations. To make a financial contribution, visit the K.I.D.S. website.
The organization said the needs are long-term.
"Once their most urgent needs have been met, there will be a long road ahead as families clean up the damage from the storm and begin rebuilding their lives," the company said in an email. "K.I.D.S. is committed to working with local partners to support these families for the long haul."
