Organic Mattresses, Inc. passes CPSC flammability audit

The company met the agency’s standards without the use of toxic chemicals.

YUBA CITY, CA— Organic Mattresses, Inc. (OMI) announced that it passed the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission’s (CPSC) crib mattress flammability audit, meeting the agency’s standards without the use of toxic chemicals.

This is the second crib mattress flammability audit the company has passed in eight years. The results of this third-party federal audit found that OMI’s crib mattresses conform to the highest level of anti-flammability standards.

The company says all models in its three-SKU crib mattress lineup meet the CPSC standards. In order to meet these standards, mattresses exposed to flame need to fall below a set “peak heat” rate. OMI’s mattresses fall at the extreme low end of the audit’s criteria and do so while remaining fire retardant chemical-free and fire barrier chemical-free.

“Retailers have to be careful with the quality of crib mattresses they put on their showroom floors. New parents have traditionally been concerned with providing a truly ‘green’ bedroom for their newborns, and it is important to recognize that children’s mattress safety standards highly differ from adult mattress standards,” said Walt Bader, OMI president and founder. “OMI was established on the principle that consumers should not have to choose between a safe mattress and a comfortable mattress. Our beds provide both safety and comfort, and we remain heavily invested in meeting and exceeding the safety guidelines needed for today’s market.”

OMI’s handmade custom organic mattresses are manufactured in Northern California in the first large-scale GOTS-certified Eco-Factory created solely to manufacture organic products. OMI mattresses qualify under the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s LEEDs indoor air-quality program. In 2013, OMI became the first mattress manufacturer to obtain the Global Organic Latex Standard (GOLS), certifying the company’s latex mattress cores are fully organic.
