Whisper Soft Mills signs deals with Jeep division, Crayola

Staff -- Kids Today, 1/3/2006 12:00:00 AM

NEW YORK — Textile manufacturer Whisper Soft Mills has signed licensing deals with Jeep Consumer Products for boys bedding and room décor, and Crayola for juvenile bedding.

The new bedding line for Jeep, a registered trademark of DaimlerChrysler Corporation, caters to boys ages 9 to 14 and will feature outdoor adventure, extreme sports and lifestyle basics with an emphasis on a rugged "4-x-4" appeal, the company said.

The line will include printed comforters, cut-and-sew detailed comforters, quilts and throws, printed sheets, novelty accent pillows, window fashions, accent rugs, blankets and slumber bags. The room décor line, which has been designed to coordinate with the bedding line, will include lamps, wall shelves, nested bins and other storage pieces.

The company also unveiled six bedding concepts for its new Crayola home license last month, which will debut in its showroom at the October New York Home Textiles Market.

The colorful new collection features an interactive theme and will be gift packed in a mesh duffle bag with a comforter, sheet set, decorative pillow and box of eight crayons for fourth-quarter shipping.

The six new designs include two girl beds: Crayola Butterfly and Crayola Fairytale; and two boy patterns: Crayola Dinosaur and Crayola Sports. The last new pattern, Crayola Pockets, comes in a version for girls and another for boys.

Crayola Butterfly has a crayon-drawn effect and features appliqués that Velcro on to the comforter for girls to create their own design. Crayola Fairytale features glitter in the pattern and comes with two markers. Crayola Dinosaur has dinosaurs that look like molded clay and two dinosaur pillows with sound chips, while Crayola Sports features a three-sport design with pockets that hold three soft balls inside and a ball-and-mitt pillow with markers. Crayola Pockets is a cut-and-sew bed with art pockets that hold various items. The girl version is pink and lavender, while the boy pattern is navy and orange.

Patterns will retail for $59.99 for a print twin comforter set or $79.99 for a cut-and-sew comforter set. Comforters will also be packaged with an art sheet for coloring. Everything else will be sold open stock.
