CPSC invites public to hearing on incident database

-- Kids Today, 10/26/2009 8:16:00 AM

WASHINGTON – The CPSC is inviting the public to participate in a hearing so the commission can gather opinions about a consumer product safety incident database. The hearing will begin at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 10 in Bethesda, Md.

On August 14, 2008, the CPSIA of 2008 (Pub. L. 110-314) became law. Section 212 of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008, Establishment of a Public Consumer Product Safety Incident Database, provides a vehicle for consumers to submit information on specific products that compromise the safety of children. The database will be available to the public, searchable, and accessible through the CPSC’s Web site.

Requests to make oral presentations and the written text of those presentations must be received by the office of the secretary no later than 5 p.m. EST on Tuesday, Nov. 3.

The hearing will be in the hearing room on the 4th floor of the Bethesda Towers Building, 4330 East West Highway, Bethesda, Md.

Requests to make oral presentations can be made online at http://www.cpsc.gov/cgibin/dbmeeting.aspx or by contacting Todd A. Stevenson, Office of the Secretary, Consumer Product Safety Commission, 4330 East West Highway, Bethesda, MD 20814; cpsc-os@cpsc.gov; telephone 301-504-7923; fax 301-504-0127

Texts of oral presentations should be captioned “Establishment of a Public Consumer Product Safety Incident Database” and emailed to cpsc-os@cpsc.gov, or mailed or delivered to the same address as above.

An electronic copy of the CPSC “Report to Congress Pursuant to Section 212 of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008, Implementation of a Searchable Consumer Product Safety Incident Database” can be found at http://www.cpsc.gov/about/cpsia/
