International textile show to debut in LA

-- Kids Today, 6/2/2008 1:48:00 PM

Market Center Management Company, the management company of leading wholesale trade centers and trade events in the United States and internationally, announced plans for GlobalTex, a new international textile show. GlobalTex, endorsed by the Textile Association of Los Angeles, will be held twice annually at the Los Angeles Convention Center with the first show April 21 – 23, 2009 and the following October 13 – 15, 2009.

GlobalTex will launch as the largest apparel fabrics and materials show in the U.S. and on par with the best designed international shows in Europe and Asia. The show will offer buyers a complete market for their sourcing needs including fabric, trimmings, supplies and technology. Los Angeles was chosen as the show location because it is home to the largest selection of textiles and notions in the U.S. and offers a superior convention center facility and international airport. The global textile industry is expected to grow to $655 billion by 2010, indicating the need for a comprehensive international show on the west coast.

The TALA endorsement ensures a critical mass of quality exhibitors and furthers the educational and networking aspects of the trade event. Specially organized seminars and special events will complement the exhibition of resources. The LACC will efficiently serve exhibitors and buyers with a location large enough to unify exhibitors in a single space creating a high-energy environment and the opportunity to grow the show from year-to-year.

“We are extremely pleased to offer a premier international textile show,” said Bill Winsor, president and CEO of MCMC. “Our goal is to launch a show larger than any textile event in the United States and expand the show to one million square feet over the next five years.”

“Market Center Management Company has a proven track record of building successful international trade events and offers a wide range of resources,” said Brian Thaler, president of TALA. “Exhibitors of this new show will be rewarded with quality domestic and international buyers. We are thrilled to partner with the MCMC team, and we look forward to building a strong show together further elevating TALA as a leader in the textile industry.”

In addition to textiles the show will feature a complete assortment of technology including computer systems, software and equipment.

“It is key for a show of this magnitude to include the technology that manufacturers need to produce quality goods,” said Henry Cherner, co-founder and director of AIMS Technology Solutions, Inc. and co-chair of TALA’s Ways & Means Committee. “This new textile show in Los Angeles will offer just that – the critical opportunity to experience and purchase production processing systems and more.”

MCMC has more than 50 years of experience in developing and managing large-scale exhibitions on multiple continents. Its accomplished staff will be instrumental in managing the show and recruiting both manufacturers and buyers to the textile show, domestically and internationally. This effort will be essential to creating a show successful on a global standard while increasing TALA’s commitment to the textile industry.

“The partnership with Market Center Management Company is vital to the international development of the show,” said Jack Jay, director of International Buying Service and co-chair of TALA’s Coalition & Trade Relations Committee. “Its relationships abroad will attract vendors and buyers from around the world to Los Angeles – a creative city, unique in its fashion statements, and trendsetting style and ideas. Together we will create an atmosphere of commerce.”
