My Child's Room opens new superstore in Chicago-area suburb

Jane Kitchen -- Kids Today, 3/1/2005 12:00:00 AM

My Child's Room opened its new 20,000-square-foot store in this Chicago suburb last month, complete with a champagne reception for manufacturers and other industry members. The Niles store is a new location and replaces an 8,000-square-foot store that was closed six miles away.

Formerly in The Baby's Room retail locations, My Child's Room operates under independent ownership after majority owner Bob Geisheker and his partners bought the eight-store chain out of bankruptcy in May 2004.

My Child's Room offers a selection of infant and youth furniture, bedding and accessories, including a large selection of strollers and carseats.

Geisheker stressed the flexibility of the store, which is merchandised in a large, open format with walls painted in several pastel shades that can easily be moved to create fresh, new showroom space as needed. The store also features a customer design center and adjacent play area for children, and several unique merchandising areas including a garage for carseat display, a kitchen for testing highchairs and a stroller area complete with park scene mural.

"In a competitive Chicago marketplace, My Child's Room offers a wider selection of the brands and merchandise that fit the needs of the customers and the community it serves," Geisheker said. "The Niles superstore represents this brand personality but in a contemporary setting ultimately providing a place where both parents and children can have a great shopping experience."

In addition to the Niles superstore, My Child's Room has stores in Arlington Heights, Aurora, Lombard, Mundelein, Orland Hills, Hoffman Estates and downtown Chicago. These stores will either be renovated to add more space in their current locations, or relocated beginning later this year.

Owner Bob Geisheker welcomes guests at the opening celebration.
