Morigeau-Lepine adds e-commerce; lean manufacturing

As a result of Canadian manufacturer Morigeau-Lépine's lean manufacturing process, implemented last summer, the company says its more efficient and faster than ever and better able to ensure quicker delivery dates (3-8 weeks) for its customers.
As part of the program, the assembly line and painting process have been restructured and completely redesigned, resulting in faster deliveries without increasing production costs. Storage space has been increased for non-assembled parts and the company has stocked up on many spare parts for most of its series. The new manufacturing process allows Morigeau-Lepine to manufacture smaller lots more often; therefore, special orders can now be ready within a maximum of eight weeks.
The manufacturer of upper-end children’s furnishings also has added e-commerce capabilities to its Web site.
Ian Sacks, U.S. sales manager, said the company is responding to demand by consumers for access to information about its offerings.
Morigeau-Lépine distributes through upscale boutiques in Canada and the United States. The e-commerce feature will extend availability and reach to consumers, especially in cities where the company doesn’t have a retail presence.
Consumers won’t be able to make purchases via the Web site if a retailer that carries the line is within 60 miles of that consumer’s home address. However, if no retailer is within 60 miles, the site allows consumer to buy from the manufacturer.
“This is an important move for Morigeau-Lépine,” Sacks said. “We’ve developed such a devoted following. We’re hoping to increase that with this option.
Family-owned and operated since 1945, Morigeau-Lépine is based in Quebec. It sells only furniture made from North American woods.
