Bratt Décor reaches out to its own drop-side crib owners

Offers repair kits, discounts in response to Stork Craft crib recall

-- Kids Today, 11/24/2009 12:26:00 PM

Editor’s Note: Bratt Décor has issued the following statement after Stork Craft’s recall of 2.1 million drop-side cribs today:

There have been millions of cribs recalled over the last two years due to drop gate issues. Although, Bratt Décor has never had a recall, we decided that it would be prudent to do away with drop side gates altogether, and officially switched all of our models from drop side to stationary gates in 2008.

Bratt Décor’s commitment to safety is paramount. Owners Mary and Stephen Bauer are parents first, and are aware of how crucial the well-being and safety of children is, they strive to be proactive leaders in the industry and to boost awareness and enlighten other parents on safe, functional designs and safety regulations.

Because the CPSC is considering mandating all drop side cribs be banned early next year, this means that anyone still using a drop side crib will be using a crib that does not meet federal safety standards. So, for any of our past clients that have purchased a drop side crib, they may want to consider discontinuing use and purchasing a stationary gate crib. We do recognize the extraordinary expense in making that decision, and have come up with some cost effective ways to help Bratt Décor moms keep babies their absolute safest.

For any parents who have an iron drop gate crib, manufactured after 2003, we are offering a free kit that will render their drop gate stationary. It is a set of metal tubes that sleeve the slide rod and hold the gate in place. This is a brand new initiative on our part, so there may be a production time. However, if that same crib is operating perfectly, we recommend turning the crib so that the drop side faces a wall, and discontinue using the drop gate until the kit arrives. To order a kit parents should email help@brattdecor.com and include a name, address, phone number, make and model number, along with the request.

For those people who have a wooden crib with a drop gate, unfortunately we do not have a kit to render these cribs stationary. We will however extend 25% off any crib in our line should they choose to replace the drop side crib. Original proof of purchase will be required. To take advantage of this limited offer parents should email estore@brattdecor.com.

Bratt Decor also implemented a Free Hardware for Life Campaign in 2008 that was created to help ensure the safety of every child with a Bratt Decor crib. Cribs are often assembled and reassembled multiple times, to accommodate more than one child, and cribs can be in continuous use for many years. When this happens, hardware can easily be lost and, as with any item, parts can simply wear out. Now, Bratt Decor will supply its clients with free replacement hardware for the life of any Bratt Decor crib produced after 2005.

These are all measures that Bratt Decor has found prudent to take in recent months. This is valuable information that we hope you share with your readers.
