More then 40 showrooms to open for premarket

Event to be held March 3 and 4

By Jeff Linville -- Kids Today, 2/27/2008 12:34:00 PM

High Point— Several additional companies say they'll open their showroom doors here for premarket March 3 and 4, bringing the roster of exhibitors to more than 40.

Twenty-four companies are sponsoring the event and upwards of 20 others also will be open.

One of the lead organizers, Kevin O'Connor, president and CEO of Samson Marketing, said that many of the retailers attending the event will be arriving on Sunday, March 2. The sponsors will host a cocktail party from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. that evening in the hospitality suite of the Grandover Resort in neighboring Greensboro, N.C.

Monday morning, the participants will receive breakfast vouchers to use on their own. Sponsors will hold a group breakfast Tuesday morning.

Showrooms on both days will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. After 6 p.m. Monday, retailers are invited back to the Grandover for a cocktail party and dinner with executives from the sponsoring manufacturers.

O'Connor said premarket still has a place, because it helps manufacturers understand their buyers' needs. Many premarket exhibitors will show finished samples of furniture and not just sketches.

"We need to be as right as we can be," he said.

If the retailers object to any part of the product, the manufacturer can look at making changes before ordering large cuttings that might leave the company stuck with inventory that won't sell.

Sponsors of premarket are American Drew, Aspenhome, Bernhardt, Broyhill, Casana, Davis International, Hammary, Hekman, Hooker, IdeaItalia, Kincaid, Lea Inds., Legacy Classic, Magnussen Home, Natuzzi, Palliser, Pulaski, Riverside, Rowe, SLF, Stanley, Universal, Vaughan-Bassett and Wynwood.
