Furniture retailers offered free Web sites

Company hopes to start ‘furnoodle’ craze

Clint Engel -- Kids Today, 4/16/2009 8:25:00 AM

MINNEAPOLIS — FurnitureDealer.net is offering free Web sites to furniture retailers.

Andy Bernstein, president and founder of the Minneapolis-based Web site and services provider, said the new service, called furnoodle, will help small and budget-conscious furniture retailers increase their in-store business by getting online.

The free sites include features such as searchable product catalogs and a room planner. The company said the self-service sites are easy to use and can be set up in less than 30 minutes. They can serve as a retailer’s sole Web site or can link to an existing site.

Bernstein said he was inspired to create furnoodle based on the business models of Google and Facebook, which offer free services to users that are ultimately paid for by third-party advertising. He also expects industry suppliers may pay to have their catalog presentations and content enhanced on the furnoodle sites.

After one e-marketing campaign through Kids Today’s sister publication, Furniture/Today, about 20 retailers signed up for furnoodle in two days, Bernstein said. Teams from company will be on streets of High Point during the High Point Market, dressed in red shirts and handing out materials.

FurnitureDealer.net said it continues to offer “premium, full-service customized solutions” to retailers who want a stronger Internet presence than the free sites offer.

Furnoodle Web sites use the same proprietary, furniture-specific software platform that powers the full-service custom Web sites of FurnitureDealer.net’s more than 40 retail customers, but with fewer and more basic features.

Retailers using furnoodle can select and display an unlimited number of their suppliers’ products from FurnitureDealer.net’s continuously updated library of more than 40,000 products from 220 furniture and bedding suppliers, Bernstein said.
