Editor's notes

Lisa Casinger, Editor -- Kids Today, 1/1/2007 12:00:00 AM

January is a busy month for us at Kids Today, as I'm sure it is for many of you.

Aside from coverage of the winter gift shows and the Las Vegas Furniture Market, we have a few new features for you in this issue.

Our Portfolio of Gifts on page 46 is a feature idea we borrowed from our sister publication, Home Accents Today. Portfolios take an in-depth look at a category, like we did with gifts, and have a registry of sources, a business story and, of course, product shots. We have several more of these planned throughout the year for different product categories, so check out the editorial calendar on our Web site, www.kidstodayonline.com for more details.

In an effort to get more faces in Kids Today, we're rolling out Retail Q&A, page 16, Retail Diary, page 20 and Industry Faces, page 38. The Q&A poses a question to members of our retail advisory board to get their input on a variety of subjects. If you have a good idea for a question or there's something you've always wanted retailers to answer, let me know and we'll consider it for future issues. Email me at lcasinger@reedbusiness.com.

Retail Diary is a monthly column, this year written by Lina Perez and Victoria Vasile, co-owners of Chocolate Milk in North Miami and the subject of this month's cover story. Perez and Vasile will share their insights, challenges and ideas as relative newcomers to the industry, hopefully giving other up-and-coming retailers encouragement and a sounding board and reminding those who've been in the business for years what it was like when they started out.

Industry Faces is a look at people in the industry. Periodically we'll profile vendors, retailers, designers and industry notables to find out what motivates them, how they got started and much more. This month we talked with Tori Swaim, owner of New Arrivals.

Don't miss By the Numbers this month because it has some great research and tips on how to use e-mail marketing to reach your core customer — moms.

What's coming next month...

Toy Fair coverage; an Up Close look at all things tween; consumer buying trends for infant furniture and more.
