Jakks Pacific partners with Nelvana to make Miss Spider products

The Miss Spider's Sunny Patch Friends property will be featured on Jakks Pacific stationery, activity games, foam puzzles, pool floats, kites and plug-in TV games.

MALIBU, Calif. — Toy and consumer products manufacturer Jakks Pacific has signed a licensing deal with Nelvana Ltd. to produce a collection featuring the preschool property Miss Spider's Sunny Patch Friends.

The agreement covers several categories, including stationery, activity games, foam puzzles, pool floats, kites, plug-in TV games and more, with retail prices set between $4.99 and $14.99.

Jakks Pacific, based in Malibu, will market the products under its Flying Colors, Vivid Velvet, Go Fly a Kite and TV Games brands, and the manufacturer plans to show the line at Toy Fair in February. The collection will ship in the spring, with all types of retailers, including mass-market and specialty stores, targeted.

"Miss Spider's Sunny Patch Friends," an animated co-production of Nelvana and Absolute Picture, airs on cable TV channel Nick Jr. in the United States.
" 'Miss Spider's Sunny Patch Friends' is a ratings hit, ranking third among all new preschool series on commercial television in its inaugural season on Nick Jr.," said Jennifer Richmond, senior vice president of licensing and media at Jakks. "Jakks is pleased to create unique and enjoyable items to further extend this top children's property at retail.

"Jakks will use its expertise in taking an existing brand, such as Miss Spider, and creating a comprehensive merchandising program by expanding it through multiple product categories," she said.
