10 Grain debuts modern furniture/toy collection
-- Kids Today, 1/1/2008 12:00:00 AM
The line, dubbed Small Paul by 10 Grain, is a collaboration between 10 Grain and fashion industry veteran Paul Frank Inds. Created by 10 Grain design director Eric Pfeiffer, the collection has his pared-down modern aesthetic. Nine of the furniture pieces are made from bent plywood, and the light finish is contrasted with bold and colorful prints featuring Julius the Monkey. The graphics are applied with the same technique used to affix graphics to skateboards.
Pieces include the Slice Step, $89, and Robo stools, $79; Log rocker, $215; Pop Stick chair, $110; Softy play table, $199; and Lounge desk, $225. The collection also includes the Julius Pad, a doll house with a molded ply form that can double as a side table and storage, $199; and the U Roll, a curved piece that functions as a simple rolling car, $175. Small Paul Spots, a package of 80 reusable vinyl wall décor featuring Julius the Monkey, rounds out the collection, $68.
Pfeiffer said the pieces are designed to be functionally open ended. “Kids use these products in ways I've never thought of. It's always exciting to watch what they do with a product given the chance,” he said.
Small Paul by 10 Grain is sold in higher-end boutiques including Paul Frank stores. The line is shipping now. Matt Genova, sales manager for 10 Grain, said a sampling of the line will be shown at the Las Vegas Market as well as the International Contemporary Furniture Fair in May and the ABC Expo in September.
The log rocker, $215, is part of 10 Grain's line debuting in Las Vegas.
