Editor's notes

This month we're in Florida at the 7th annual Kids Today conference and considering all that's going on in the industry, we couldn't think of a better theme than "The Power of Change."
It's amazing how such a small word can evoke such immediate and emotional reactions from people, especially when you challenge them to implement change.
Most of us don't normally embrace change, even though we know the results often provide a favorable outcome. Here at Kids Today, we realize while change can be challenging and even risky, we've adopted a mindset to embrace it.
Since we're halfway through the year I'd like to get your feedback on some of the changes we've made in Kids Today because this is your magazine and our goal is to make sure we're giving you the information that matters most to you.
Here's just a partial list of some of the new things we've done:
-
Portfolios are in-depth looks at a particular category. They include a business overview, registry of sources and product images and descriptions. We thought these features were a great way to learn more about some of the main categories in our industry. Have they been helpful to you?
-
With your help, we've expanded the voice of Kids Today. Specifically, we did this with Retail Q&A, Retail Diary and Industry Faces. For the Q&A, we pose questions to our retail advisory board members to find out what's going on in stores. Retail Diary is a monthly column written by our friends at Chocolate Milk. Lina and Victoria have offered their thoughts on a variety of topics from how they charm their customers to dealing with copy cats. Industry Faces are mini-profiles of designers. We wanted to find out how they got into the biz, what inspired them, how they create and even some light-hearted things like how they earned their first paycheck. We hope you're enjoying getting to know more people in the industry, I know we are.
-
Up Close features. Here, rather than to focus on a particular product category, we've taken a look at product by age groups. We did this to give you an idea of what's out there for toddlers, tweens, kids, babies and teens.
Though we're never done making changes or improvements to the magazine, we'd love to know what you think about what we've done so far. Love it? Hate it? Either way, email me.
We want to make Kids Today even better and we can't do that without your input.
