Secaucus, N.J. —
Secaucus, N.J.-based Pierre Deux, the upscale French Country retailer, is launching a collection of kids' furniture, initially occasional pieces, that will be featured both in its retail stores this spring and in its catalog.
The pieces replicate in smaller scale the quality of the adult versions as well as the fabrics that are signatures for the company, said Heather Ryan, vice president,
The initial collection includes a fully upholstered chair, a classic Country French carved wood chair, a chest, several accent pieces and a scaled down Louis XV settee — some dozen in all — “a petite group for petite people.” The second collection, planned for launch later this year, will include wall art, clocks and wall and coat racks among other home accent items, Ryan said.
The introduction of kids' furnishings “is a natural one for us. The family is such an integral part of our cozy, comfortable lifestyle,” Ryan said. The marketing begins first with the catalog and over the course of the spring, kids' corners will be featured in stores, along with pets' furnishings — another new initiative, Ryan said.
The upholstered furniture is made domestically, while the case pieces are made in France and Southeast Asia. The fabrics are the same as the French designed and produced styles with provincial, toiles and checks featured. “We didn't rework the patterns to fit the kids' sizes.”
Pierre Deux operates 17 stores in Massachusetts, Florida, Texas, California, New York, New Jersey, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Colorado and Connecticut and plans to open one this month in Virginia.
The characters on this wall rack are inspired by characters from vintage French story books, $59.
Kids can rest formally or casually in French country chairs. The Maienenco petite upholstered chair is covered in a classic Pierre Deux cotton print with a ruffled skirt at $395 retail, and the petite wooden chair has a rush seat and aged patina on the wood at $95.
