Mark Katzman back in business

Industry veteran Mark Katzman is back in business. The co-founder of Opus Designs, which was bought by Hooker Furniture Co. last year, has started 1st Pod Designs, a youth furniture company.
Katzman plans to preview nine groups in High Point during the March 2009 pre-market with a full launch in April.
“There's a real opportunity in the youth market,” Katzman said. “And it's bigger than it was four years ago when we started Opus.”
Katzman says the product will be made in Indonesia with warehousing there and in the U.S.
“Manufacturing in Indonesia gives me more options in wood species,” Katzman said. “I believe I can make a better product at a better value — value meaning not necessarily at the lowest price point — but added value with more features and benefits.”
Katzman's goal is to give consumers a better design option at middle price points and he says by “surrounding myself with a talented team for design, production and sales,” he'll be able to accomplish that goal.
He also plans to tap into key retailers for their insight and ideas on product.
