Rug Market partners with designers for juvenile collections

-- Kids Today, 1/1/2008 12:00:00 AM

The Rug Market has teamed up with two designers for new collections of juvenile and youth rugs that will make their debut during the New York gift show and the Las Vegas Market.

The Los Angeles-based company has partnered with juvenile bedding and accessories designer Annette Tatum to produce a line to compliment the Little House baby collection. The initial group, Little House Collections, is composed of eight SKUs that include a mix of cotton hook and cotton flannel rugs. The line, done is muted shades, features patterns such as plaid, paisley, stars and flowers. Retail prices for a 4'7” x 7'7” rug range between $375 and $395.

The Rug Market has also joined with designer Sapna for a 10-SKU collection in bold colors and designs. Sapna has created designed for a variety of manufacturers during the past 10 years, and the deal with the The Rug Market expands her brand in the home accessories arena.

Designs in the collection include Zuma Beach, a cotton hook rug in bright pinks, blues and greens with tween/teen appeal; Land Before Time, which features an assortment of prehistoric animals; and Farm Animals, which has a whimsical motif of barnyard critters. Retail prices for a 5' x 8' rug ranges between $375 and $395.

In related news, The Rug Market is pulling out of the Atlanta market and closing its corporate showroom after 15 years. CEO Michael Shabtai said the company is focusing its efforts on the Las Vegas, High Point, Dallas and Los Angeles markets.

“We are grateful for all the business and relationships that we established in the Atlanta area rug market,” he said. “Regretfully, we are closing our doors since business is shifting to other markets as our business is growing in other markets.”

The company still plans to show its gift and juvenile collections in the Butler Group showroom in AmericasMart Building 2, 1212.

Shabtai said that as the market changes, The Rug Market would consider returning to Atlanta. He said that customers who do not attend other markets would still have full access to the company's inventory through catalogs, the Web site and dealership programs.
