South, West lead way in gear sales forecast

Staff -- Kids Today, 8/16/2007 12:00:00 AM

Infant gear sales will increase by 43.9% between 2006 and 2011 according to the latest projections by New York-based Easy Analytic Software Inc. Overall, 274 of the nation's 934 metropolitan areas will do better than the national average if the crystal-ball readers at EASI are correct.

Leading the pack will be metros in the West and South. In the West, 67% of the large metro areas (those with a core area population of 50,000 or more) are projected to increase their gear sales at a rate greater than the national average, along with 44% of smaller Western metros (those with a core population between 10,000 and 50,000). In the South, the rate of growth is somewhat slower, with 45% of large metros expected to exceed the national average in growth, along with 20% of the smaller metros.

By way of contrast, only 20% of large metros in the Northeast and 26% of large in the Midwest are projected to exceed the national growth rate.
