Am I seeing green?

The ABC Show in Las Vegas is over and the debut of the Naturally Kids Pavilion was a success

By Mark Lazar -- Kids Today, 10/1/2008 12:00:00 AM

The ABC Show in Las Vegas is over and the debut of the Naturally Kids Pavilion was a success, but also as exciting to yours truly, the Green Guru, were the green offerings scattered throughout the show.

Walking the 10 miles of aisles at this year’s show I was confronted with manufacturers presenting eco-friendly, sustainable merchandise from mattresses and furniture to strollers, bedding and personal care, and these vendors were not in the Naturally Kids Pavilion.

Everyone seemed to have some green merchandise and a company policy statement about how they recycle waste for heating or about their recycled packaging and how they have been ecologically friendly for years. The fact is many companies have been doing something eco-friendly for quite some time, but now it pays to advertise their efforts. As mentioned in a previous column, being green is good business. It shows your customers you care and you’re doing something about it.

Most of us attending the show also learned about the new CPSC safety policies going into effect in 2009. Included in those new standards are lower acceptable contents of lead and formaldehyde, as a result of the recent product recalls. The American public is looking closely at the issues of accountability and integrity in the public officials they elect and in the products they purchase.

Let’s be straight with the ideas, policies and products we present to our fellow citizens.

As I write this column, the stock market is reeling from the troubled investment companies who are faltering one after the other. It’s all part of the same mindset. Who can we trust?

After 90 years in business (don’t I look good for 90?) I know that new moms and dads are looking for straight talk from the people and businesses they turn to for products and services for their children, now more than ever.

Today’s consumer is doing a lot of research before purchasing and is looking closely at their purchasing decisions and basing those decisions on sustainable fact. They are looking for answers, and good ones.

Next year’s Naturally Kids Pavilion will be expanded to accommodate all the applications that have come in already so now’s the time to get on board with your eco-friendly product line.

Here’s hoping you’re Greening UP!
