LIVE FROM ABC –Décor producer, Wallcandy Arts has introduced Smarts, wall art for babies.
Smarts is a three-step program designed to enhance newborn and infant cognitive development. Each kit contains six sheets of more than 50 non-toxic moveable and reuseable decals, including six photo frames. They are easy to apply and remove, without damaging paint.
Scientific research has shown that black and white geometric pattern such as checkerboard and bulls eye are appealing to newborns and young babies; and that at an early age, babies can see primary colors.
Smarts incorporates these patterns and colors into illustrations that create a scene designed to stimulate an infant, helping develop gross motor skills.
Research has also shown that infants respond to faces and changing scenery, so the frames can be used to showcase family photos.
Smarts works great next to spots where a baby spends a lot of time – by a changing table, crib, or bouncy seat.
Smarts is a collaboration between WallCandy Arts founder and president Allison Krongard, and Danielle Guthrie, a partner and designer at the San Francisco design studio, the Vega Project, and founder of mommy blog milkshakesandmargaritas.com.
Guthrie had developed the basis of the illustrations for her own children, and was delighted by their response of kicking and giggling as they looked at the art. As a fan of WallCandy Arts, she contacted Krongard, who was impressed with Guthrie’s stylish and modern interpretation of the famous research on stimulating newborn brain activity.
Together, with some pediatric consulting and the support of a prominent ophthalmologist who pointed out that he wished he had the product for his own kids, Guthrie and Krongard created Smarts – wall art for babies.
