ABC Kids Expo's first day for independent retailers only
Show open to all retailers remaining 3 days

All Baby & Child, parent company of the ABC Kids Expo, has announced that the first day of the fall tradeshow, Sept. 13, will be for independent, specialty brick-and-mortar retailers only. The remaining three days will be open to all classes of retailers, according to a press release.
The 7th annual show is slated for Sept. 13-16 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The main focus of the expo is on products from newborn through teen, predominantly in the areas of furniture, bedding, room decor, baby gear, gift and layette, toys and related accessories.
Organizers cite the “current economic conditions and other global events” in their decision, and add that it is “for the benefit of the juvenile products industry.”
According to the release, “the ABC board of directors, its specialty retailers, manufacturers, affiliated trade groups and sales representatives are extending this special invitation to all of the industry’s retailers, in order to provide more optimal show exposure to all show participants and help promote a more rewarding show experience and sustained growth among all of our industry’s partners.”
In prior years, the ABC Expo was five days long, and independent retailers had two days to work the tradeshow floor before the doors opened to other retailers.
All Baby & Child and the ABC Kids Expo were founded by the juvenile product industry’s specialty retailers and their supporting manufacturers to promote the long-term sustained growth of the industry as well as to provide valuable opportunities for networking and education. The board of directors includes an equal number of retailers and manufacturers.
“While the mission of the organization remains as a ‘partnership of independent specialty stores and the manufacturers who support them,’ the board and its affiliated organizations recognize the show’s importance as an industry event, and feel that the change in show admittance policy will benefit the industry as a whole,” stated the release.
“We ask that you please respect and abide by this change in show admittance policy, which will be strictly enforced. We look forward to welcoming you to Las Vegas this September,” stated the announcement, which is signed “The ABC Board and ABC Team Members.”

I totally agree. The ABC show has deviated from its founding philosophy
and has adopted one that is ultimately detrimental to all specialty stores.
The ABC show is really no different than the old JPMA show. I find it
interesting why the ABC board never stated any justification for the
shows change of direction. Certainly not too transparent.
So what's the scoop ABC? Why the sell out?

So, we have deteriorated from a Specialty Store Show only as a cooperation of specialty stores and manufacturers to last years status of allowing the mass in for the last half of the show to the shows new current state of existence of basically a free-for- all.
Our Specialty Only Show will now be over run by all internet sites, big boxes and mass merchants. By all accounts JPMA show = ABC. It may be a different organization & board but it's still the same old mentality.
