Magnussen will unveil its first youth program at High Point.
HIGH POINT -- Case goods resource Magnussen Home Furnishings will unveil its first youth and second bedroom program at the April High Point Market that includes 10 new moderately priced sets.
Each group in Next Generation will offer twin and full-sized beds and optional trundle storage. Companion pieces include a dresser, mirror, nightstand, chest and media chest as well as a student desk, chair and hutch.
Many groups also will have bunk beds, captain's beds, vanities, storage mirrors and storage cubes.
Company CEO Richard Magnussen said this is an opportunity for the company to tap into a category he views is on the rise in terms of consumer interest and sales.
Produced in Vietnam, it also will tie into the company's strengths in sourcing and logistics. For example, the bedrooms can be shipped as part of Magnussen's QuickFlex program, which allows multiple groups to mix on a single container with master bedroom.
"I am excited about this because Magnussen wants to broaden its overall categories of home furnishings," said Richard Magnussen, CEO. "We think this is a category that will line up well with our logistics and quick ship program and will give our sales team a broader offering."
The company has modeled three groups on existing bestselling master bedroom sets and the remainder is original designs. Styles cover a broad range of casual cottage, modern, traditional, rustic and transitional footprints made with a mix of cathedral cherry, cathedral mahogany, quartered oak, quartered walnut, bamboo and birch veneers and hardwood solids.
Individual groups will be offered in finishes that include painted white, black cherry, mahogany and dark walnut.
While some groups are based on master bedroom designs, Next Generation groups are smaller in scale. For instance, a master nightstand in the 1428 Nova measures 28 by 16 by 28 inches compared to a Next Generation version that measures 24 by 16 by 28 inches.
A master dresser in the same group would measure 64 by 18 by 38 inches compared with a Next Generation version that measures 54 by 18 by 38 inches.
In development at least for the past 12 months, the company decided on the name Next Generation to reflect not just the youth, but also the second and third bedroom tie-in.
"We looked at research done with moms and what they are looking for," said Larissa Rolland, marketing manager. "It needs to be something that they can have for their children that will grow with them as they get older. It is good quality at a good price and will work well with their lifestyle."
Twin beds retail from $299 to $399, nightstands retail from $149 to $249 and dressers retail at $399 to $599.
