ASTRA announces 2017 Marketplace & Academy theme

CHICAGO — The American Specialty Toy Retailing Association (ASTRA) has announced that the theme of its 2017 Marketplace & Academy is “Mighty Together: Inspired by the Power of Play.” The event will take place in Philadelphia, June 25-28, and for the first time, the Marketplace exhibit hall will be expanded to three full days.

Renowned Mount Everest adventurer, successful retail entrepreneur and bestselling author Jamie Clark will headline the event, opening the third day of the marketplace with a keynote entitled “Above All Else: The Power of Passion.” He’ll make his presentation on June 27, from 8:30-10 a.m.

“ASTRA’s Marketplace and Academy is indeed a mighty event, given the many vendors who offer new products that differentiate our members’ stores, the formal education and unscripted networking opportunities that enrich our members’ knowledge base, and the generous show-only discounts retailers will find in Philadelphia,” said Kimberly Mosley, president of ASTRA.

Registration for the event is now open at www.astramarketplace.com, with early bird discount rates available until March 15.

I'm Tom Russell and have worked at Furniture/Today since August 2003. Since then, I have covered the international side of the business from a logistics and sourcing standpoint. Since then, I also have visited several furniture trade shows and manufacturing plants in Asia, which has helped me gain perspective about the industry in that part of the world. As I continue covering the import side of the business, I look forward to building on that knowledge base through conversations with industry officials and future overseas plant tours. From time to time, I will file news and other industry perspectives online and, as always, welcome your response to these Web postings.
