Smartstuff launches Scrimmage collection at April market

13-piece collection has relaxed industrial flair to appeal to girls and boys

HIGH POINT – The new Scrimmage collection by Universal Furniture’s Smartstuff youth division offers a relaxed styling that combines with functional elements that aim to appeal to boys and girls in their tween and teen years.

Smartstuff ScrimmageThis youth bedroom is part of Scrimmage a new 13-piece collection being shown at Smartstuff at the April 22-26 market.
The 13-piece collection to be shown at the upcoming April High Point Market comes in a weathered gray finish called Graystone and features dark metal accents on case pieces as well as a planked panel bed, and a bookcase.

There are three beds as well as a convertible crib, making it also suitable for the nursery. The three beds include a panel bed with a planked headboard and footboard; a panel bed with a wood chevron pattern headboard and paneled footboard and planked bunk beds.

Twin beds retail at $1,199 and full sized beds retail at $1,499.

Storage pieces include a two-door tall cabinet with a metal frame and glass doors and shelving, a bookshelf with metal frame and wooden shelves and an eight-drawer chest with wood frame and metal front drawers.

Other signature pieces include a new desk and chair and optional hutch with industrial design influences that complement the industrial elements represented in the metal accents throughout the collection. There is also a metal bed end bench that has hidden magnets in the cushions to keep them in place. A nightstand also comes with a USB outlet.

Chests and dressers come equipped with a Smartstuff Safe Stop drawer mechanism, which prevents more than one drawer from opening at a time, thereby keeping children from using the drawers as a ladder to reach the top. These pieces also come with anti-tip kit that the company recommends consumers use to anchor the units to the wall.

Scrimmage can be seen at the company showroom at 101 S. Hamilton during the April 22-26 High Point Market.

I'm Tom Russell and have worked at Furniture/Today since August 2003. Since then, I have covered the international side of the business from a logistics and sourcing standpoint. Since then, I also have visited several furniture trade shows and manufacturing plants in Asia, which has helped me gain perspective about the industry in that part of the world. As I continue covering the import side of the business, I look forward to building on that knowledge base through conversations with industry officials and future overseas plant tours. From time to time, I will file news and other industry perspectives online and, as always, welcome your response to these Web postings.
