K.I.D.S. enters furniture market at High Point

Jane Kitchen -- Kids Today, 10/25/2011 10:16:07 AM

K.I.D.S.NEW YORK -- Kids in Distressed Situations (K.I.D.S.), a charity organization that provides underprivileged and disaster-struck children and their families with new products donated from manufacturers and retailers, will be attending the High Point Market for the first time this week.

Over the past 26 years, K.I.D.S. has provided goods to more than 67 million children and their families with more than $1 billion dollars' worth of new clothing, toys, shoes, juvenile products, books, dvds, and more. K.I.D.S. has been able to provide children, and often their entire families, with self-esteem and hope through a gift of something brand new.

The donations are distributed through a network of nearly 1,000 local social service agencies.

This marks the first time K.I.D.S. has entered the furniture Market, though the organization has a large presence at the ABC Expo and is one of two charities of choice for the market, so many manufacturers and retailers who deal in nursery furniture are already familiar with the organization's important work.

Throughout its history, the K.I.D.S. has provided disaster relief to communities devastated and destroyed by natural causes. But in 2011 the number of disasters that have occurred has raised the need to provide families with products to rebuild their homes and their lives.

"For the last 26 years K.I.D.S. has served families in need," said Janice Weinman, president of K.I.D.S. "More than ever those in distressed situations need to receive home products and home furnishings because of their dislocation due to natural disasters and economic challenges."

When disaster strikes in the U.S. and abroad, K.I.D.S. responds quickly and efficiently. During this year alone K.I.D.S. distributed urgently needed items to victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan and to families affected by the horrifying storms and tornadoes in the South, Midwest and Eastern seaboard.

By entering the furniture industry, K.I.D.S. hopes to bring additional renewed hope where there is despair.
Whether during disasters or throughout the entire year, the organization picks up any quantity and size of product from warehouses, stores, distribution centers and delivers it to communities where people lack the means to furnish their homes.

By providing K.I.D.S. with excess inventory you have, including market samples, manufacturers and retailers can help put people affected by poverty and other challenging circumstances back on their feet and on the track to rebuild their lives.

Chris Blake, senior vice president of K.I.D.S., will be visiting showrooms to introduce himself and provide further details about the organization. You can also reach Blake at cblake@kidsdonations.org or at 917-517-5491.
