JPMA offers parents tips for Baby Safety Month

September 2017 campaign highlights importance of safety straps and belts

MOUNT LAUREL, N.J. – In preparation for Baby Safety Month in September, the Juvenile Product Manufacturers Assn. is helping educate consumers about the importance of strapping children in places ranging from car seats to high chairs.

JPMA LogoThe “Strap In For Safety” campaign is based on the fact that falls are the leading cause of non-fatal injuries for all children from newborns up to age 19 years old. Each day, some 8,000 children are treated in emergency rooms for fall-related injuries, the JPMA notes.

Its campaign highlights the importance of child safety devices such as straps and safety belts, particularly on baby gear including car seats, strollers, swings and high chairs.

First and foremost parents, grandparents and other caregivers are advised to keep an eye on babies and other children whenever possible. However, the JPMA also has offered some safety tips as part of its campaign.

I'm Tom Russell and have worked at Furniture/Today since August 2003. Since then, I have covered the international side of the business from a logistics and sourcing standpoint. Since then, I also have visited several furniture trade shows and manufacturing plants in Asia, which has helped me gain perspective about the industry in that part of the world. As I continue covering the import side of the business, I look forward to building on that knowledge base through conversations with industry officials and future overseas plant tours. From time to time, I will file news and other industry perspectives online and, as always, welcome your response to these Web postings.
