CPSC review: Infant bedding safe for sleep
By Staff -- Kids Today, 10/1/2004
Mount Laurel, N.J. — The Consumer Products Safety Commission's Health Sciences staff conducted a review of data from November 1995 to January 2004 and concluded there were no deaths directly related to the use of traditional crib bumper pads, infant blankets and stuffed toys in infant cribs.
This new information clarifies confusion over whether suffocation incidents are caused by such products.
"This information supports what we have been saying for years," said Robert Waller Jr., president of the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Assn. "Traditional infant bedding, when used properly, provides a sleeping infant with a safe environment in which to sleep."
Forthcoming efforts to spread the word include an extensive media relations campaign to retailers and consumers.
