Mahwah, N.J.— RJM Licensing has entered into an agreement with The Copyrights Group to represent and continue the North American merchandising of a couple of Raymond Briggs' characters.
In "The Snowman" and two editions of "Father Christmas," all published in the 1970s, Briggs illustrates a warm, traditional family Christmas.
"The Snowman," which has become a holiday classic after being translated into film more than 20 years ago, is the tale of a mischievous snowman who comes to life and goes on adventures with his friend, James.
"Father Christmas" and "Father Christmas Goes on Holiday" are tales that center on the adventures of grumpy Father Christmas.
"We are delighted to be representing 'The Snowman' and 'Father Christmas,'" said Rob Mejia, president of RJM Licensing. "Raymond Briggs, the author and illustrator of the books, has created memorable illustrations and delightful storylines which have captivated and amused readers for decades."
"RJM Licensing is the ideal agent to represent Raymond Briggs' 'The Snowman' and 'Father Christmas' in North America, with significant experience in art and literary properties," said Nicholas Durbridge, president of The Copyrights Group. "We are confident RJM Licensing will enjoy the same success in North America that The Copyrights Group have had in the U.K."
RJM will initially market ornaments, tins, throws, special occasion apparel, gift wrap and stationery, Mejia said.
"We are introducing the property to select manufacturers at Licensing International in New York and expect an enthusiastic response," he said.
RJM Licensing will preview the Snowman and Father Christmas properties at Licensing International.
