Staff -- Kids Today, 10/1/2005

New York— Toy manufacturer RC2 Corp. has signed a deal with Marathon Animation to create a line of dolls and accessories based on the Totally Spies property.

The doll line features the fashionable characters from "Totally Spies," an animated series produced by Paris-based Marathon. The series follows the adventures of a trio of Beverly Hills teenagers who fight crime around the world. The show has been airing since 2001, and is broadcast on the Cartoon Network in the United States.

RC2's line of dolls and accessories will emphasize fashion and action, and is designed to encourage imaginative play among young girls. Each doll will be packaged with spy gadgets, and during the initial launch a limited numbers of dolls will be sold with a DVD from the TV series. The collection is scheduled to ship next year and will be released under RC2's Learning Curve brand. The suggested price point is $9.99.

"We're please to welcome Totally Spies into the RC2 family," said Peter Henseler, president of RC2. "The Totally Spies line will provide a unique opportunity for young girls to engage in both doll and spy play. We are excited to bring this blend of fashion doll and action play to young girls."

The RC2 licensing agreement is just one of several Marathon has signed in recent weeks. The production company also has struck a deal with Brighter Child Interactive that gives the children's publisher the right to produce educational software and workbooks based on Totally Spies. The products will be released next month and sold online and through mass market stores and specialty retailers.

Marathon also has signed with Atari, which will produce a line of video games for various platforms such as PlayStation2, Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS. The Game Boy version of Totally Spies is scheduled for release in November.
