The hits of High Point

Show reveals inspired product

Staff -- Kids Today, 11/1/2005

The October High Point furniture market was packed with introductions. As with recent markets, the teen category was a big winner. And while many of the groups have second-bedroom applications, the function and design center around the growing child. Examples include Zocalo's Ariel collection, which includes a pink leather bed and leather storage trunk for a girl's clothing, magazines or mementos. And Palliser introduced its Fusion group, which provides storage and study pieces in a hip, asymmetrical design.

Younger kids weren't forgotten, however. Vaughan's new Hatteras collection, with its boat-shaped bed, will surely be popular with little sailors. And Lea Inds.' Tina collection is a girls white group with a pearlescent finish and storage headboards that are practical as well as pretty.

Fifi the poodle strikes an elegant pose as the centerpiece of a new chandelier and lamp from Just Too Cute. The coordinating French Cocoa bedding is by Martinek Baby.

This sunflower chair is new from Mac at Home and will leave any little girl sitting pretty.

Designer's Secret's Little Miss Mermaid bed features a whimsical design in pretty pastel colors. The twin-size bed retails for about $850.

Pulaski is going after the tween market with two new collections, including Attitude, shown here. The group features a two-tone effect with veneer fronts and sharp brushed-nickel hardware. The door chest retails for $799.

Zocalo continues to go after the teen market with this pink leather bed from the new Ariel collection, part of its Z Generation youth line. With a retail price point of $599 for a twin, the bed has just the right mix of attitude and femininity.

Berg's Utica loft is available in twin or full and includes plenty of storage. The loft retails for $1,699, and a second color can be added inclusive in that price. Drawer pulls are from One World.

This boat bed from Vaughan is part of the company's Hatteras collection, which features a nautical theme, including hardware designed like boat cleats. The bed with footboard locker and trundle retails for $599.

In partnership with textiles manufacturer Maddie Boo, Newport Cottages is offering customized finishes that coordinate with the bedding. Here, a dresser and crib are finished in pink and chocolate.

This innovative loft/desk/trundle bed is new from Kelebek, and is available in orange, purple or grass. The trundle bed pulls out from underneath the study area, and different storage options can be added on. Retail price of the unit shown is around $1,200.

Fatboy beanbag-type Original seat is designed for kids to adults and conforms to just about any shape. The chair is available in 15 colors including new cobalt, purple and turquoise. The retail price is $229.

The Lounge collection is new from South Shore Inds., and features a contemporary look with a dark finish. This upholstered headboard retails for $299.

Bedtime's Harlow collection takes the manufacturer's youth offerings in an older direction. The group is made of cherry veneers and features brushed-nickel hardware and bamboo-shaped molding.

Green Frog Art's Annabelle cradle and rocker feature classic styling with sturdy spindles. The pair is also available in white.

Young America launched a new line of Built To Grow convertible cribs that transition to six positions and ultimately wind up as a full-size bed. With a retail price of $599, the cribs are available in five styles and several finishes.

Palliser's new Fusion group, geared toward teens, uses a modular concept for multiple solutions in a room. Made of natural maple laminate with painted nickel accents or chocolate with champagne accents, the collection also features asymmetrical aspects for a hip, fresh look. This platform bed with microfiber headboard retails for $399 in full.

This colorful armoire from Opus Designs is part of the company's Colors collection, which features flexible, changeable drawer fronts on many pieces.

University Loft's new Sky Box lofts build on the company's reputation for options and flexibility. Available in white, blue or black with drawer steps, options include mix and match leg color as well as adding in a closet, chest, desk or upholstered pieces underneath.
