Color shakes up youth groups

Staff -- Kids Today, 11/1/2005

Painted finishes are always popular on youth bedroom groups. The nature of the category allows for more eye-popping shades than can usually be found on master bedroom collections. The October High Point furniture market seemed to raise the ante, with several manufacturers and importers raiding the paint store. Manufacturers dressed their fall introductions in various shades of red, blue, pink and yellow. And sorry Kermit, but it is easy being green, as that color proved to be one of the hottest hues at market. With these new pieces, everyone is guaranteed to dream in color.

Direct importer Primex showed its Metro collection in a pair of colorful paints — barn red and marine blue.

Lea Inds.' My Style collection is available in white, black and a bright celery green. Customers have the option of mixing the painted finish with natural-finish surface tops, and they can choose from natural, painted finish or chrome drawer pulls.

Hooker introduced two cottage groups available in a range of colors during the High Point market. This daybed is part of the Mariners Landing group and shown in a deep cranberry. It retails for $699.

Oak Designs has added a distressed denim finish, which brings the total number of offered finishes to 20. This bunk retails for $1,499.

American Woodcrafters recently launched its Kid's Colors collection, which mixes natural wood tones with paint, including kiwi green. Other choices are white sand, navy and cherry.
