Simmons introduces crib mattresses

Orlando, Fla.— Simmons Bedding Co. debuted two lines of crib mattresses at the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Assn. show here, a Simmons Kids baby mattress line and the BackCare Baby collection.
Anne Kozel, brand manager with Simmons Kids, said the company decided to produce the collections after research showed that parents were intimidated about shopping for infant mattresses.
"Parents told us that the mattress has totally been ignored" by the juvenile industry, Kozel said.
The Simmons Kids baby mattress group is composed of five styles. The introductory model has a foam core, while the other four have increasing coil counts. All of the mattresses have a hypoallergenic 100% vinyl cover that is wet-resistant and can be wiped clean. They also feature a no-flip design and square corners designed to keep children's hands from becoming trapped between the mattress and crib.
Retail price points for the Simmons Kids baby line range between $89 and $149, and the collection is being sold at mass merchants, specialty stores and mattress and furniture stores.
The BackCare Baby collection is a step up, with retail price points of $179 and $199. Both mattresses in the BackCare Baby group include the same square corners and no-flip design of the Simmons Kids baby line.
The BackCare Baby line also features Healthy Support Pocketed coil springs and an upgraded vinyl covering. The $199 model also features AllerCare fibers to help reduce dust mites and other allergens in the mattress and memory foam for comfort. The BackCare Baby line is targeted toward specialty shops and mattress and furniture stores.
The mattresses will be shipping this summer.
