CPSC recalls

Staff -- Kids Today, 7/1/2005

JUNE

  • Shakespeare Fishing Tackle Division of Columbia, S.C., is voluntarily recalling about 438,000 children's fishing kits. The paint on the rods of these fishing poles contains lead. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects.
  • Kids II Inc. of Alpharetta, Ga., is voluntarily recalling 29,300 Bright Starts Jammin' jumpers. The plastic clamp that attaches the jumper seat to a door frame can break, which can cause the unit to fall to the floor. This poses an injury hazard to young children.
  • Wal-Mart Stores Inc. of Bentonville, Ark., and Infantino LLC, of San Diego, Calif., are voluntarily recalling about 26,000 Baby Connection Fun Frog soft gyms. A cap on the wire supports inside the soft gym's upright arms can detach, allowing the wire to poke through the fabric. This poses a laceration and puncture hazard to babies.
  • Fisher-Price of East Aurora, N.Y., is voluntarily recalling about 29,000 scooters and 5,000 mini bikes. If tires are over-inflated, the plastic rim within the wheel can break, causing the tire to rupture. This poses the risk of facial and hand injuries while inflating the tire.
  • Razor USA LLC of Cerritos, Calif., is voluntarily recalling about 246,000 Razor electric scooters. A weld can break, causing the handlebar to detach from the scooter. This can cause the rider to lose control and fall from the scooter.

MAY

  • Summit Marketing International LLC of Dublin, Ohio, is voluntarily recalling 2 million children's folding chairs. The chair's safety lock can fail, allowing the chair to collapse or fold unexpectedly. Children's fingers can become caught or entrapped in the hinge and slot areas of the chair, posing a pinch or cut hazard. This can cause severe lacerations and finger tip amputations to children's fingers.
  • Carter Brothers Manufacturing Co. of Brundidge, Ala., is voluntarily recalling about 9,000 Carter Brothers Fun-Kart go-karts. The wheel could separate from the go-kart, posing a roll-over hazard.
  • Delta Enterprise of New York is voluntarily recalling about 180,000 Lov's Decorated Orthodontic pacifiers. The pacifiers are banned under federal law. They failed federal safety tests when the nipples separated from the base. This poses a choking hazard to young children.
  • Pamela Drake Inc. of Emeryville, Calif., is voluntarily recalling about 7,000 Lemon Meringue wooden push toys. Small parts can break off, posing a choking hazard to children.
  • Dollar General Corp. of Goodlettsville, Tenn., is voluntarily recalling about 80,000 heart-shaped pendants. The recalled heart-shaped pendant contains high levels of lead. Lead poisoning in children is associated with behavioral problems, learning disabilities, hearing problems and growth retardation.
  • PBteen of San Francisco is voluntarily recalling 28,000 glass knobs on Chez Moi furniture collections. The glass knobs can break when over-tightened or when pressure is applied, exposing a sharp edge.
