Diaper bags get fashionable overhaul
Tanya K. Merritte -- Kids Today, 7/1/2005
Today's moms and dads are fashionable, hip and full of energy, and fortunately, so are today's diaper bags. Moms now have no problem finding a bag that matches their personal style, and dads are no longer forced to carry a pink or blue bag with bunnies.
Many of these bags have a summer feel, such as Fleurville's striped Escape Pod, DadGear's messenger bag and Mackerilla Designs' Cruzer, which is marketed as a multipurpose bag, but has gained quite a following in trendy baby boutiques. In fact, many of these bags are a great choice even if baby isn't around. Reese Li's Georgetown, with its interchangeable ribbons, can be a fun large purse, and Kalencom's brushed cord in the warm cayenne shade is a perfect tote bag for fall.
Reese Li 's Georgetown bag is available in either black or tan and comes with three ribbons, so Mom can switch up the look. The Georgetown retails for $140, and a changing pad and zippered pouch are included.
Little Company's Travelbag has hand and shoulder straps, plus a trendy geometric pattern along the top. An insulated bottle holder and changing mat are also included.
Loom 's Bandicoot has a detachable Joey clutch that comes with its own shoulder strap for solo use. The larger bag comes with a changing pad and has two large pockets for the usual necessities. The Bandicoot comes in several color combinations including gold/avocado. It retails for $110.
The Dynamic can be carried over the shoulder or as a backpack and has an expanding compartment for extra items. The included changing case features a pad as well as storage areas on the sides. From Baby Björn, it retails for $99.95.
The Cruzer from Mackerilla Design has several compartments and can be worn either over the shoulder or as a backpack. The Cruzer is offered in several fabrics and patterns, and it retails between $130 and $146.
Fleurville 's Escape Pod is a changing kit/toiletry kit and makeup bag all rolled into one. The bag can hold a wipe case, two diapers and other essential items.
The Marshall, shown here in a sporty yellow, is designed for dads and has places for a cell phone, PDA and wallet as well as changing pad and pouch. From The Mustard Sprout, the bag retails for $80.
Kalencom 's brushed cord tote comes with an insulated bottle bag, changing pad and zippered pouch. The bag is offered in four autumnal colors — cayenne (shown), pumpkin spice, mustard and eggplant — and retails between $60 and $72.
The Hawaiian messenger bag is a stylish alternative for the dad on the go. The bag comes with a changing pad, lots of pockets and a tropical design along the front. From DadGear, the bag retails for $86.
Carter's quilted nylon-microfiber bag is shown in a chic black with trendy charms and includes a changing pad and zippered pouch. From Baby Boom, the retail price point is $35.
