Amy Coe to open first retail store in Conn.

By Jane Kitchen -- Kids Today, 1/1/2006

Westport, Conn.— Juvenile textile designer Amy Coe is set to open her first retail store here, dubbed amy coe, which will showcase her signature bedding collection along with a selection of other juvenile décor products. The store is scheduled to open this month.

Coe said she has been eyeing locations in Westport for several years. "The demographic here is just perfect," she said. "It's a no-brainer. It will be a seamless transition to open my flagship signature store in my hometown."

Coe described the 1,200-square-foot store as cozy, but also said the core design is very sleek and modern with clean, pure whites. Along with her crib, twin, full and queen bedding collections, the store will also feature lamps, rugs, wall art, furniture and jewelry, along with items like cashmere children's clothes.

"Because I've done this for so long, I feel pretty knowledgeable about what looks great with my bedding and what the void is in this marketplace," she said. "I've tried to capture the best of the best."

Coe said the look and feel of the store will be very high end, with price points on accessories ranging from $10 for a book to $60 for cashmere. Lighting and rugs from smaller designers will be showcased, along with furniture from Relics, Oeuf and Corsican, for several looks. Still, said Coe, the focus of the store is the linens.

Coe said her entire signature collection, which includes more than 15 designs, has never been showcased in its entirety before, something the retail location will allow her to do.

"It's the perfect setting for me to showcase my work," she said. "With my Target affiliation and the signature business 13 years old, it's time for me to wrap my arms around how I see it in a store venue...The theory behind the retail space is really to give more of a voice to my brand identity and have people who have seen it all over the U.S. get the TLC and expertise in a retail location."

Coe's offices will be relocated to an adjacent building this month, so Coe can meet customers. She will concentrate on exclusives for the store to draw customers, and will use the retail location to test colors, textures and designs.

"I look forward to seeing that end user that I've never met before," she said.

Coe expects to draw customers from Manhattan and Westchester, along with the Connecticut suburbs, because she said the amy coe brand is so identifiable. "Avid shoppers and devoted moms will travel," she said.

After the signature store, Coe is looking ahead to additional stores in the next two years. She said she plans to expand in Connecticut first, and then look at New York and Los Angeles.
