Sunset Trading introduces cribs

High Point— Juvenile furniture manufacturer Sunset Trading has added cribs to its product lineup.
Director of Sales Steve Benidt said Sunset Trading had planned to introduce cribs about two markets ago. Those cribs would have been sourced out of China, but the manufacturer decided against that, citing the cost of putting the containers on water. Sunset Trading has instead partnered with Canadian manufacturer Caramia, which is producing the cribs. Benidt said that arrangement has kept costs down.
The collection is composed of three five-position cribs that coordinate with Sunset Trading youth bedrooms groups. A natural finish crib coordinates with the Falmouth collection, a white-finished crib with the Crayons and Lily's Dollhouse collections, and the Keiko crib goes with a caramel-finished group of the same name. All three cribs can eventually convert to full-size beds, and the retail prices range between $499 and $599.
Benidt said that retailers prompted the move into a new category. "We were getting a lot of ... requests to add cribs," he said.
The collection launched at the fall High Point market, and Benidt said retailers seemed pleased. "The response was very positive," he said. Many buyers were a bit surprised to see cribs in the showroom because Sunset Trading gave little advanced notice, Benidt added.
The cribs are scheduled to begin shipping this month. Sunset Trading is attending the Las Vegas furniture market and will be showing in temporary space at the Mandalay Bay.
Falmouth is one of the new cribs.
