Oklahoma City— A group of investors led by retailer Mathis Bros. has bought juvenile furniture importer Bedtime Inc.
Retailer and wholesaler Mathis Bros., owned by Bill and Larry Mathis, long has been a high-volume Bedtime dealer with stores in Oklahoma and California.
"It's like the old story we've all heard: we liked the product so much, we bought the company," said Bill Mathis. Referring to the importer's mixed-container program, he said, "The mixability, value and design make Bedtime a cinch for any retailer."
Mathis Bros. has extensive wholesale experience as the owner of the international bedding licensing group Lady Americana.
Key managers of Bedtime will remain on board. Bob Woodyard, who had been president, will continue to focus on product development and plant relations, a role he has handled for the past eight years at the company.
"In borrowing from the operational expertise of our new owners, we will strengthen our position as the best source for juvenile in the industry." said Ron Holiday, Bedtime sales manager.
Bedtime will continue to sell to other retailers, said Rit Mathis, sourcing manager for Mathis Bros.
The Bedtime purchase also includes the casual dining division Dineco, but Mathis said the management group is considering whether to continue that line.
