Sacramento, Calif.— Juvenile specialty retailer Goore's has opened a 2,000-square-foot Young America Signature Shop in its 32,000-square-foot store here, with a grand opening celebration timed in conjunction with Goore's annual Presidents' Weekend Trunk Show.
"It was a very big weekend," said Ken Goore, owner of Goore's, who added that the new Young America Signature Shop resulted in "lots and lots of sales."
The Goore's location is the fifth Young America Signature Shop to open since the manufacturer launched the concept last year, but the first on the West coast — and the first in the world of independent juvenile specialty stores. Other Signature Shop locations include Phoenix, Minneapolis and Lancaster, Pa.
The Signature Shop features furnished vignettes, a design area and a children's play area, along with videos featuring stories about real kids that let parents know what they can expect from Young America in terms of style, safety and durability.
"One of the reasons we embraced the Young America Signature Shop concept is its simplicity," said Goore. "Young America is not only the leading youth furniture manufacturer, it offers the best in customer service — from helping parents design the room through delivery."
A design area overlooks the play area and incorporates accessory and bedding displays. The store also utilizes both merchandise planners and a computer console with the Young America Web site to help parents look at additional pieces in a collection.
