Lenoir, N.C.— Manufacturer Broyhill Furniture Industries has sold one of its plants here, and plans are under way to manufacturer a line of juvenile furniture for Toronto-based Spin Master at the location.
Last month, Broyhill sold the 430,000-square-foot Occasional 1 plant, which was closed last summer, to Mark Kiser of Marx Industries and another unnamed investor. Kiser said he is moving business from a plant in Rock Hill, S.C., to the new location in Lenoir, which is being called Consumer Specialties of North Carolina. The plant is already open and manufacturing dog beds.
Kiser said he is planning to move the manufacturing of Spin Master children's furniture line to the Lenoir plant in the next two to three months. The line is currently being made at a Marx Inds. plant in Thomasville, N.C. Kiser also plans to make decorative pillows at the Lenoir plant.
SpinMaster's Marshmallow furniture division, launched last year, specializes in soft furniture and accent pieces targeted to mass-market retailers.
Plant owners are hoping to hire 60 workers by the end of the year.
