New York— BBC Worldwide is expanding the reach of its animated Charlie and Lola children's property with several new partnerships and licensing deals, including Dan River for bedding and bath.
Charlie and Lola made its U.S. debut at the Licensing Show last June. The British property is based on a series of children's books that follow the adventures of 7-year-old Charlie and his younger sister Lola, with animation reflecting the cut-out style of the books.
The Wildflower Group, the North American licensing agency for the preschool property, has signed three new licensees. Manufacturer Roger la Borde plans a line of greeting cards and stationary items this spring, and luggage maker Worldwide Dreams will unveil backpacks, handbags and other luggage in the fall. Textiles maker Dan River is planning a collection of bedding and bath products, set to hit stores in spring 2007.
In the publishing category, Penguin Young Readers Groups will launch a full program in July, with imprint Dial printing hardcover books and Grosset & Dunlap printing paperback. BBC Video is also releasing two DVDs based on the property in August.
"This is a very exciting time for the Charlie and Lola brand," said Susanna Pollack, vice president of children's business development at BBC Worldwide. "We are confident our partners and licensees will create outstanding products."
