Freddy & Friends sling seats launch with contest
Staff -- Kids Today, 5/1/2006
The Original Freddy is a new line of handcrafted chairs and rockers from Greenville, N.C.-based Freddy & Friends. The chairs, developed by John Barkland, are based on the main character of the upcoming children's book series, "The Chronicles of the Blue Moon" by S.E. Blakeslee, a professional designer, illustrator and copywriter.
The first products in the Freddy world include The Original Freddy sling seats in either a chair or rocker in big or little sizes. The chairs support up to 350 pounds and are suspended between two sturdy cross bars, each of which sits in a cylinder of dense foam more than 3 inches wide. They have smooth plastic bottoms to protect floors from scratches and the patented removable sling seat loop, made of high-quality durable cotton blend fabric, is designed for quick removal to make cleaning and replacing the seat covers effortless.
"We wanted to offer consumers something different than what is currently available on the market," said Tony Khoury of Freddy & Friends. "The Original Freddy is a versatile new addition to any home. With his bright blue spots and mischievous look, Freddy is much more than a chair, he is a friend who inspires reading, learning and imagination."
To help welcome Freddy onto the shelves and into homes, Freddy & Friends is hosting a Spot Freddy & Win contest throughout the pages of Kids Today. It began in the March issue and continues through September. Readers are encouraged to search for three images of Freddy (Freddy's head, Freddy's tail and Freddy's spots) hidden within the magazine's pages. Once retailers spot all three images, they can visit the Spot Freddy & Win Contest Web page to enter their contact information and the page numbers where Freddy was hiding for a chance to win one of six mixed master cartons containing four Freddy sling seats (one small Freddy Rocking Chair, one large Freddy Rocking Chair, one small Freddy Chair and one large Freddy Chair) valued at more than $550 (suggested retail). The contest will be open for 11 days following each month's mailing date of Kids Today (for example, the contest for the May issue, which is scheduled to be mailed on May 15, will be open until May 26).
