JCPenney is recalling about 3,000 Crazy Daisy 3-in-1 electronic motion shade lamps. The lamp's electrical circuit board can spark and overheat because of an electrical problem, posing a fire hazard to consumers. The retailer, based in Plano, Texas, has received one report of the electric circuit board overheating and melting the wires in a lamp. No injuries have been reported.
The recalled lamps have a four-way switch that allows the lamp to function as a moving light so that patterns revolve around the shade. The lamps can also be used as a basic lamp or as a night light. The shade is made of plastic and the finish on the base of the lamp is brushed steel.
The lamps were sold at JCPenney's stores, its catalog and its Web site from June 2005 through March 2006 for about $30.
Toy manufacturer Alex is recalling its Super Cooking sets because the glass pot lids can break, posing a laceration hazard. The Northvale, N.J.-based manufacturer has received a report of a toddler who needed stitches after cutting her foot on the broken glass
This recall involves the Super Cooking sets, a 12-piece stainless steel set with miniature pots that have clear glass lids. The cooking sets were sold in a white box with a clear plastic window. A red sticker labeled "unbreakable glass" is affixed to the pot lids. Cooking sets manufactured after April 1, 2006, have stainless steel lids and are not included in this recall.
The sets were sold at discount department and specialty toy stores nationwide from September 2005 through April 2006 for about $20.
Publisher Simon & Schuster is recalling about 9,000 "Curious Buddies" children's books. The felt ears and limbs on the pop-up characters can detach or come apart when pulled, which may pose a choking hazard. Simon & Schuster has received reports of two 6-month-old infants who removed felt from the pop-up parts of the book. No injuries have been reported.
The recall involves the "Hello, Curious Buddies!" title. Inside the book are two plush pop-up toy characters. The books were sold at bookstores, discount department stores and other retailers nationwide from October 2005 through May 2006 for about $10.
Additional recent recalls:
- Emess Design Group, Ellwood City, Pa., is voluntarily recalling about 9,500 children's lamps. The glass window of the fire truck and bulldozer night light can become dislodged, fall and shatter into small pieces. This poses a laceration hazard and a serious risk of injury if ingested by a small child.
- Hold Everything, San Francisco, is voluntarily recalling about 3,200 pieces of children's furniture in the Homeroom Bedroom collection.
The small cam lock covers can be easily removed, presenting a choking hazard to young children.
