Mia Moda debuts with seven strollers, car seat

By Tanya K. Merritte -- Kids Today, 10/1/2006

New gear manufacturer Mia Moda made its trade show debut at the ABC Expo last month, bringing a range of strollers, including a compact folding version that created a buzz at the show.

The Pennsylvania-based company showed seven stroller styles and one car seat. Kevin Gallen, sales manager of Mia Moda, said the Cielo (see page 39) grabbed the most attention because of its compact fold. The stroller, designed to be used as a secondary stroller for children 6 months and older, folds with one hand and can be slipped into an accompanying bag and stored in the overhead bins of most airplanes. The Cielo retails for $149.99.

Other models include Spirito, a compact umbrella stroller; Libero, which has a lightweight aluminum frame and four-position seat recline; Atmosferra, with a height-adjustable telescopic handle and reversible seat; Terra, which has all-wheel suspension for more rugged terrain and cable-operated brake; Energi, a three-wheel lifestyle stroller; and Madre, which features a reversible handle that allows parent to push the stroller with baby facing them. Retail price points range between $99.99 and $349.99. The Viva car seat, $109.99, is designed for babies birth through 22 pounds and fits all of the strollers except the Cielo and Spirito.

Gallen said that while the Cielo folding demonstrations initially lured potential buyers into the booth, most seemed pleased with the entire line. "There's a feature on each stroller that's catching their eye," he said.

The Mia Moda line is targeted to independent specialty stores, which typically draw the types of customers the stroller is designed for, Gallen said. "These consumers are brand-conscious, have an eye for fashion and they want to do their own thing — they're independent," he explained.

Gallen said the strollers were created by design teams working in both the United States and Munich, Germany. The design, patterns and even the stroller names showcase European roots. "Our designers are keeping an eye on fashion, color and trends," Gallen said. "We're looking to Europe for our inspiration and to stay ahead of trends."

The entire Mia Moda line will be available in stores in December.
