Fade to white

Talk to retailers, and many will tell you that despite all the finish options in the youth bedroom marketplace today, white collections remain a top-seller for girls' rooms. But as these recent introductions show, white goes far beyond ultra-feminine, embellished groups. The latest trends include casual cottage designs, metal beds with a distressed, antique look, sleek low-profile European looks and beds and case pieces with storage options normally seen in boys' groups. But whimsical looks still have a place as Loft's carriage-shaped bed illustrates.
The Cape Cod bed, $599, from Sunset Trading, designed by Allison Eremita, not only has headboard storage shelves, but also shelves on the side for books and toys and a garden gate footboard to complete the look.
Pinecone Hill from Sauder is a crisp girls group with ample storage options and pieces that work well in smaller rooms. The five-drawer chest retails for about $199.
The Abbie's Point daybed from Lea Inds. mixes traditional sleigh styling with beadboard end panels for a more casual look. Optional underbed storage ideas include rolling padded ottomans.
Vaughan-Bassett has added a snow white finish to its Cottage group along with new underbed storage options. A full panel bed with two deep drawers on each side retails for $899.
The Tatoo collection, left, from Gautier takes personalization to the next level. Plexiglas panels on the desk, dresser drawers and wardrobe allow girls to display their favorite photos, posters and other mementos. Sleek styling and a lacquer finish complete the European look.
The Alexandra collection from Broyhill is finished in a distressed white finish with a greenish trim and feminine crystal knobs. The collection features several beds, including the company's first metal twin, which retails at $299.
A fun carriage shape makes the Fairy Tale bed from Loft fit for a princess. The metal bed, $499, features a wheel at each corner and a low-profile mattress setting.
SLF's premiere girls' group, Villa Parariso, is an antique-white finished group with hand-painted embellishments and antiqued painted hardware. The twin bed, $399, has acanthus leaf details and a shapely headboard.
A glossy lacquer finish and clean lines give the Valencia collection by Tvilum Scanbirk a clean, modern look with tween and teen appeal. The twin bed with storage retails for $399.
