Cuddlebugs-n-Cocoons teams up with TLC designer

By Lisa Casinger -- Kids Today, 1/1/2008

Edward Walker, designer on TLC's “Trading Spaces,” has created a line of bedding for teens and tweens produced by Cuddlebugs-n-Cocoons, based in Apex, N.C.

Seven collections will debut at the Atlanta International Gift & Home Furnishings Market, Jan. 11-15, in Cuddlebugs-n-Cocoons' showroom in the Fine Linens section, Building 1, 7th floor, Booth J19.

The collections include colorful, bordered duvets; tailored, banded bed skirts; coordinating shams and accent pillows; and complementary graphic rugs. Whoo Whoo Kiley is a retro group featuring appliqued owls with a predominately pink, brown and orange color scheme. Sylvia Ann has an Asian feel with a black and white colorway with touches of fuchsia, vines, flowers and butterflies. Shanee, one of the two boy groups, is gender neutral in chocolate brown with appliqued circles of aqua turquoise and chartreuse. The collections are available in twin, full and queen with a $480 suggested retail for the twin.

Cuddlebugs-n-Cocoons has made baby blankets and juvenile bedding for specialty stores since 2005. Company president and founder Sandra VanSickle said of Walker's point of view: “Edward's designs fill the gap by using the ultimate teen commodity 'cool,' sending it down the road to adulthood.”

VanSickle and Walker met about three years ago when they were both working on a dream home for the Leukemia Society. Walker designed the room of the honoree, a little boy, and VanSickle designed the bedding and window treatments for the nursery. Since then, they've worked on a few projects together and VanSickle produced Walker's pillow line that launched last spring.

“I started working on teen/tween bedding but just didn't have the time to devote to it,” VanSickle said. “I asked Edward if he'd like to design teen/tween bedding and he said yes. It's a great partnership.”

Walker will greet visitors at the Cuddlebugs-n-Cocoons' booth on Saturday and Sunday during the gift market. He also will host a design seminar, “Design for Outdoor Living,” at 1:30 p.m. Friday in The Gardens, Building 1, Floor 15.

Jungle Jess is one of seven of Edward Walker's debut designs.
