Vendors break into new category with lighting

Wall decor company Creative Images launched into a new category at the Las Vegas Furniture Market with the debut of Lamps4Kids.
Years ago the company sold a few lamps created by one of its artists but the line was not extensive.
“Retailers have been asking for juvenile lamps from us for quite awhile,” said Joy Phillips, owner of Creative Images. “Design is what we do all day. We know what people want, we know the price point they're looking for and we understand they want lamps larger than 8 inches and that have a longer life.”
The collection compliments Creative Images' art with 68 designs in three styles — 14” uplight accent, 27” contemporary and 25” cylinder table lamps. Retail price points range from $49.99 to $69.99 and the lamps are made in the U.S.
“The colors and trends on these lamps are not so thematic so they can be used longer in a child's room, or even used in second rooms and dorm rooms,” Phillips said.
Designs include stripes, geometric blocks, florals, paisley, camo and leopard prints all in various colorways.
Furniture manufacturer Alicia Stanley also delved into lighting with the debut of her collection at the Atlanta International Gift & Home Furnishings Market.
Much like her colorful, hand-painted furniture, the lamps are bright and bold. The initial line includes two styles of floor lamps and pendants. The shades are all large drums in either stripes or vibrant colors with silver or gold interiors. The single pedestal floor lamp with shade retails for about $364.
“I've always wanted to do lamps but we started the business with the furniture first because those resources were more readily available,” Stanley said. “We wanted to get the furniture line up and running before we started something else. Our custom-made furniture has a longer ordering time so we also added lamps to have a line that had more instant gratification for buyers.”
Stanley plans to expand the line this fall and debut some younger, tween looks at the ABC Kids Expo in September. The additions will include table lamps, floor lamps and pendants with a variety of different patterns and hues.
