Capel offers green rug cleaner

Also adds other eco-friendly products

Rug source Capel has broadened its lineup with a new line of eco-friendly cleaning products.

Launched as Capel Care products, the objective of the new carpet care line is to provide superior cleaning while being totally benign to the environment.

According to Bud Young, Capel’s vice president of marketing, the chemistry of most rug cleaners dates from before many people understood the chemical effects on the environment and health. He said many cleaners contain volatile organic compounds such as butyl cellosolve, a suspected carcinogen, which may trigger respiratory sensitivity in humans and animals.

As an alternative, scientists employed by Capel incorporated chemistry developed for personal care — specifically cleansing of the hair and body — to formulate products that offer superior cleaning properties but are safe for human contact.

“Our new line of Capel Care formulations possesses state-of-the-art cleaning characteristics while being totally free of any volatile organic compounds,” he said.

The cleaning products, which will be available at home furnishings retailers, are slated to retail for $9.95 for a 16-ounce bottle, which is recommended as a spot cleaner. To handle set-in stains, a concentrated solution is available.

The company also has added two eco-friendly rug lines. One, called Earthright, features organically grown cotton. Also new is a collection called Ragtime that features 100% recycled yarn.
