Leading retailers in kids home furnishings
Top 20 retailers, combined sales increase by 2.6%

The Top 20 kids home furnishings retailers recorded $10.8 billion in sales in 2007, an increase of 2.6% from $10.5 billion for the same group in 2006. The leading companies sold kids products through 12,804 doors last year.
Bentonville, Ark.-based Wal-Mart takes the crown once again as the No. 1 retailer, selling $3.2 billion worth of kids merchandise last year. Minneapolis-based Target holds onto its No. 2 position with kids sales of $1.8 billion. And, Wayne, N.J.-based Babies “R” Us sold $1.5 billion in kids home furnishings in 2007, retaining its No. 3 slot. These three companies have held the top three ranks for five consecutive years. They together sold $6.5 billion in kids home furnishings and account for 60% of the Top 20.
In comparing 2007 versus 2006 sales among the trio, there was a difference of $1,455 million in 2007 between Target and Wal-Mart, compared with a $1,415 million gap between 2006 sales. The gap between Babies “R” Us and Target is much narrower. Target led Babies “R” Us by $283 million in 2007 kids sales and led the baby specialist by $234 million in 2006 sales.
