Toys "R" Us in Times Square opens Babies "R" Us department

-- Kids Today, 9/3/2008 9:22:00 AM

An expanded Babies“R”Us department opened in Toys“R”Us Times Square. The nearly 6,100-square-foot Babies“R”Us department, located on Level Two, has a selected assortment of traditional baby items for parents who travel by taxi or subway. To celebrate the department’s grand opening, the store will host a celebration featuring a book signing event on Thursday, September 4, and additional activities.

The book signing event, 11:30 am to 12:30 pm, features the authors of “Grandmother Book: A Book About You for Your Grandchild”.  Throughout the opening weekend, the store will host costumed characters, including Arthur, Barbie, Strawberry Shortcake, Funshine Bear and Geoffrey.  In addition, guests will receive special deals and a complimentary Babies“R”Us sunshade and Geoffrey drawstring backpack for all kids, while supplies last from September 6 through September 7.

To ensure that Times Square shoppers are aware of the expanded assortment of baby products, the exterior of the building will now feature easily identifiable signs, showcasing both Toys“R”Us and Babies“R”Us  logos. The new Babies“R”Us department has a contemporary feel, with merchandise showcased against a palette of soft colors, such as silver, white and butter. Also, the space features a state-of-the-art Babies“R”Us Baby Registry, a “Baby on the Go” shop to make traveling with baby easy and special services, including a Mothers’ Room.

“Expanding the Babies“R”Us department by nearly 1,000 square feet in Toys“R”Us Times Square offers shoppers a great new location for all of their baby needs,” said Mindy Clements, General Manager, Toys“R”Us Times Square. “The new Babies“R”Us department is the perfect Midtown Manhattan destination for parents to find chic baby apparel, strollers, bedding and baby care essentials, while shopping for the hottest toys available for kids of every age.”

The expanded assortment of baby products at Toys“R”Us Times Square includes 16 varieties and patterns of bedding, layette for sizes birth – 12 months, apparel for children ages 3 – 48 months, and shoes for tiny feet.  Additionally, the new Amy Coe Collection, exclusive to Babies“R”Us, offers a selection of items for babies and moms, including bedding and apparel.

For parents traveling around town with a newborn, the updated Babies“R”Us department features a “Baby on the Go” shop filled with the latest city-ready strollers from brands including Bugaboo and Baby Jogger; swings from Fisher-Price; high chairs from Stokke; car seats from Britax; playards from Graco and more.  Baby necessities, such as diapers, wipes, bottles and formula are also available for New Yorkers or visitors looking to stock up on fresh supplies.

In addition to an expanded product selection, the new Babies“R”Us department offers several unique guest services.  Moms can provide baby care or change a diaper in the Mothers’ Room.  Furniture selections are also available for home delivery, via catalog, including cribs, dressers, changing stations, armoires, mattresses, rockers, and bassinets.  Additionally, the Babies“R”Us department offers a convenient in-store baby registry that is also accessible online at www.Babiesrus.com. This service eliminates guesswork and geographic barriers from gift-buying, allowing friends and relatives to easily select, buy and send gifts directly to the expecting parents.
